Sandwiches are a popular fast food item in the US and often sold from street carts or restaurants. They can be customized with toppings like mushrooms and hot peppers for further customization.
The Benefits of Bell Peppers
Bell peppers are an eye-catching and nutritious vegetable packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Enjoyed raw or cooked, they come in different hues such as green, red, yellow and orange.
Bell peppers provide vitamin C, an essential nutrient for skin and immune system health, in addition to potassium for blood pressure regulation and vitamin A for eye maintenance.
Bell peppers are also low in calories and rich in fiber, making them a fantastic food option for anyone trying to lose weight or maintain a healthier diet.
How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers
Ingredients:
- 4 bell peppers, halved and seeded
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375degF.
Heat a large skillet on medium-low heat. Pour one teaspoon of olive oil into the pan.
Add thinly sliced flank steak to a skillet and season it with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, cooking for 5-7 minutes or until it has become brown and cooked thoroughly.
Make sure to remove the steak from the skillet and place it aside before handling further.
Be sure to add one more tablespoon of olive oil into the skillet before combining sliced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper slices in. Cook these vegetables for approximately 7-7 minutes or until they become soft and caramelized.
Add minced garlic to a skillet, and cook for one or two minutes or until fragrant.
Return the steak and vegetables back into the skillet, stirring to blend.
Place the bell peppers that have been cut in half and seeded into an oven-safe baking dish.
Scoop the steak and vegetable mixture into each half of a bell pepper, placing an even amount inside each pepper half.
Top each stuffed pepper with shredded provolone cheese for the finishing touch.
Bake the peppers in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until their cheese has completely melted and become bubbly.
Serve hot and have fun!
